European Electric Road Systems' Symposium in Berlin

The "European Electric Road Systems' Symposium" was held in Berlin from February 14 to 15, 2023. This event was organized by Fraunhofer ISI from Germany and WSP from Sweden, as part of the Swedish German Collaboration on ERS (CollERS2).

The symposium brought together a diverse group of 120 participants, including 90 attendees on-site and 30 online participants, representing 12 primarily European countries (Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Netherlands, Poland, and Sweden). The event provided a platform for experts, researchers, policymakers, and industry professionals to exchange knowledge, insights, and experiences related to Electric Road Systems (ERS).

The symposium covered a wide range of topics surrounding ERS, ensuring a comprehensive exploration of various aspects. Participants engaged in discussions on technology advancements in ERS, including the latest developments, innovations, and emerging trends. Economic considerations and funding strategies for ERS projects were also addressed, shedding light on the financial aspects and potential funding sources.

Policy making played a significant role in the discussions, as policymakers and experts shared insights on regulatory frameworks, standards, and guidelines necessary for the successful implementation and integration of ERS into existing transportation systems. Country case studies provided valuable real-world examples, showcasing ERS projects from different European nations and their unique approaches. Another crucial topic discussed during the symposium was the acceptance of ERS among stakeholders and the general public. Participants explored strategies for fostering acceptance, addressing concerns, and building trust in this transformative technology. Network design was another area of focus, where attendees delved into the planning, layout, and optimization of ERS infrastructure to ensure seamless connectivity and efficiency.

Overall, the European Electric Road Systems' Symposium in Berlin provided a great platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration among experts from different disciplines and countries. By addressing technology, economics, funding, policy making, country case studies, acceptance, and network design, the symposium contributed to advancing the field of Electric Road Systems and accelerating their adoption for a sustainable and efficient future in European transportation. We are looking forward to meeting all of you again at a future European Electric Road Symposium!
